Duties

What is my responsibility as a player?

  1. Remember your username.
  2. Keep your profile current.

As far as TennisScoreboard.net goes, a player doesn't have much to do to stay in good graces. If you forget your password you can request that it be mailed to you online automatically. Of course this won't work if your email address is wrong, we can reset it manually if you find yourself in that situation. Some of the information that a player is interested in is available without logging in, but its probably a good idea to login every so often just to see what is going on.

Should I change my password?

Registration

How much does it cost to register?

Registration is free when submitted on-line.

top

Why is registration required?

Registration is required to deal with security and access. There are several classes of users, each having access to the appropriate features. Registration is also a necessity of convenience of use. Rosters are managed by selecting names from a list. That list comes from registration. Strict registration is required to maintain unique users. It is necessary that each player is registered only once. Bill Smith and William Smith should never be the same person.

top

Why do you collect so much data?

The only required data that is collected is contact information. We do provide other fields, such as USTA ratings, which you can provide if appropriate. It is our believe that all leagues will have a league administrator. The league administrator may need to contact players for various reasons, for example he may require an interview to settle a dispute. The email data is collected so the captains and administrators can conveniently communicate with teams and leagues.

Is my personal data safe?

TennisScoreboard.net will never sell or make available to others your personal information. One TennisScoreboard feature being developed is the ability for a Captain to publish his weekly lineup. The Captain would fill out his roster and click send. His team would be emailed a copy of the lineup. There are many such features which could be implemented. Sometimes in the future we may provide a feature which would allow registered players to communicate. Guest will not have access to our email system. Currently we do not have plans on any mass mailings. However, if a mass mailing should occur it will be tennis related. For example. If one of our members has 4 extra tickets to a sold-out tennis event I may be inclined to broadcast that to our members. If you have any question please contact me.

Who needs to register?

In short, Players, Captains and Administrators, or everyone except guest.

top

Who does the registration

One of TennisScoreboard's design principals is that everyone needs to carry their own weight. It is our believed that the best person to provide personal information about an individual is the individual himself. It is our preference that players register themselves. The captain should only register a player as a last resort. TennisScoreboard's user base is approaching 1000 registered players. It is important that registrations be strictly enforced to maintain accurate list and to eliminate duplicate entries for the same player. Registrations are verified using a reverse phone numbers lookup on the home phone. Email addresses are verified on submission. If either the address lookup fails, or the email is undeliverable, the registration is delayed for further verification.

What if I don't have the internet or a personal email address?

There will be players who don't have a convenient access to the internet and don't have a personal email addresses. You can use a friend's internet or go to the public library. When you register you will be assigned a user name and a password. If you register on-line you will receive that information via email. If you do not have a personal mailbox use: mbx.none@tennisscoreboard.net.

How can I get an email address?

Some people have access to the internet but don't have a personal mailbox. TennisScoreboard.net is pleased to offer a very cool web-based mailbox for a fee. The cost is $20 per year. This service is available to TennisScoreboard members only, not the general public.
